For our most recent JETAA catch up, we spent a relaxing Sunday afternoon at Wellington’s very own Japanese-style cat cafe. Neko Ngeru, located in Petone, serves up tasty cafe fare while giving visitors the chance to hang out in a room full of (usually) friendly cats.
What’s extra nice is that Neko Ngeru also serves as an adoption center! All the cats are rescued in co-operation with local agencies and are available to be adopted (if someone hasn’t already beaten you to it). Along with the menu, each table has a book with details on the cats, so you can learn about them while spending some quality time together.
We spent a nice hour at the cafe, chatting while drinking Japanese green tea and coffee with cute cat art on it. Some of us had more luck getting the cats to come over for pats and scratches than others, but a little patience (and a warm, recently vacated seat) usually paid off. We’ll hopefully organise another afternoon here in the future, so be sure to keep an eye out!
