On the last Tuesday and Thursday of every month, the Japan Information & Cultural Centre (JICC) at the Embassy of Japan in the Majestic Centre puts on a free Japanese movie screening. Films are shown in Japanese with English subtitles.
Elevators to the 18th floor are available from 5:30 PM, and a short video about Japanese culture or history will be shown from 5:45. The film itself starts at 6:00 PM sharp, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to arrive early!
The dates for this month are: Thursday, 26 July & Tuesday, 31 July
This month’s film is A Tale of Samurai Cooking, a 2013 historical drama based on the true story of “Kitchen Samurai” Funaki Dennai, who created a new style of cuisine in the Edo Period. Although a period drama, the film also features a heartwarming love story, as well as a unique look into the Yaga clan.
