That’s right! This year for hanami, rather than relax under gently drifting cherry blossom petals JETAA Wellington headed down to the Fergs on the waterfront and strapped up for some indoor rock climbing.
Why rock climbing, you ask? Why not, we say! As part of our efforts to discover interesting new group activities in Wellington together, JETAA Wellington decided to treat our members to a little physical fun on a Saturday afternoon. As with many of our events, everything was free of charge for our lovely alumni!
After working up a sweat, it was time for the best part of hanami: food and drink! We headed over to TaiyaKiwi, Wellington’s best (and only) taiyaki and matcha cafe.
Only somewhat sated by the snack, we decided to accept JET alumna Helen Kono’s invitation for a late lunch at Yoshi Sushi‘s beautiful new Press Hall location.
All the climbing and tasty food gave everyone a good chance to catch up, which is what JETAA Wellington is all about! We definitely think we’ll be keeping up this unique mix of Japan and Wellington going for next year’s hanami celebrations. Hope to see you there!
